A 15-day adventure from Moscow to Vladivostok, via Mongolia, with 1 night in Moscow, 12 nights on the Golden Eagle and 1 night in Vladivostok.
One of the world’s greatest railway journeys, the Trans-Siberian Railway runs from Moscow over the Urals, across the magnificent Russian steppes and alongside the shores of the world’s largest freshwater lake. By the time the Golden Eagle arrives in Vladivostok, it will have passed through eight time zones, and travelled over 6,000 miles; one quarter of the way around the world.
This tour is also available westbound from Vladivostok to Moscow. Whether travelling eastbound or westbound, before boarding the train there is a Champagne Reception in wonderful surroundings, with a brass band to accompany passengers to the train, marking the departure.
Day 1 & 2 Moscow. Arrive Moscow and overnight in the hotel. The next day is a tour of Moscow, which takes in the grandeur of the Kremlin where one can see the treasures of the Tsars in the Armoury Chamber. We also visit the Red Square with its eclectic mix of fascinating architecture, such as the ornate St Basil’s Cathedral’s magnificent onion-domed spires, the socialist-realist style of the world famous GUM Department store and the sombre site of Lenin’s tomb. Depart for Kazan.
Day 3 Kazan, situated on the River Volga and the capital of Tatarstan, with its stunning mosque and perfect onion-domed cathedral.
Day 4 Yekaterinburg, where the Romanov Royal Family were executed, and where one can visit the Europe/Asia boundary to stand with a foot in each continent.
Day 5 Novosibirsk, with its unique Siberian architecture and the city of science;
Day 6 Onboard
Day 7 Irkutsk, the ‘Paris of Siberia’, with its classic wooden architecture and the Decembrist House museum (dedicated to the memory of the exiled aristocrats who were forced to flee to this remote outpost after the failed revolution of 1825), and a private concert before returning to our train for dinner;
Day 8 Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world and known as the Pearl of Siberia with its unique breed of freshwater seal, where one can enjoy a BBQ
Day 9 Ulan Ude, capital of the Buryat Republic, to enjoy a concert featuring local dancers and musicians.
Day 10 Ulaan Baatar with its Buddhist Monastery Gandan, and depending on the dates, the wonderful Naadam Festival;
Day 11,12,13 Onboard
Day 14 Vladivostok, a military port that was closed to foreigners between 1930 and 1992. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 15 Depart Vladivostok
The Hotel Hyundai, Vladivostok, which is located in the heart of the city. All the main attractions of this city, which blends European with Oriental cultures, are within walking distance.
The Marriott Royal Aurora, Moscow, located in the centre of the city, within walking distance of such attractions as the Red Square. This hotel is the only one in Moscow to offer butler service for each guest room.
